Božena Pacáková-Hošťálková

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):435-446

The territory of the Battle of Hradec Králové on 3 July 1866 (Battle of Königgrätz) is a heritage zone as declared by Ministry of Culture as per Decree No. 208/1996 Coll. on the establishment of selected parts of regional aggregates as heritage zones. Based on the World Heritage Committee's definition of three basic categories of a cultural landscape, the area is classed in the category of associative and continuously organically developed landscapes. The method of farming typical for the Czech environment, permanently focused on agriculture and a settlement character, played an important role in the organic development of the territory. The battle...

Countess Maria Antonia of Questenberk, née Kaunitz, and her influence on the fate of the mobiliary of the castle in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou

Lucie Bláhová, Jana Petrová

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):447-453

The castle complex in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou was rebuilt and enlarged according to the principles of Baroque architecture and was promoted to the status of residential seat of Count Jan Adam of Questenberk. He established Jaroměřice as a major center of cultural and musical life during the first half of the 18th century. The Jaroměřice Castle experienced its zenith at the time, and this of course is reflected in its interior mobiliary. The Baroque, and later Rococo, styles gave the castle interiors their unmistakable appearance whose surviving fragments still captivate us with their sense of balance, artistic sentiment, and perfect craftsmanship....

David Tuma

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):454-463

As part of the current phase of area research of industrial complexes, technical monuments, and buildings in and around Podbrdy, an archival and field survey was conducted of the area around the Strousberg railroad in the Dobřív-Mirošov section. The railroad was built in 1872 by Prussian businessman Bethel Henry Strousberg (1823-1884) with the goal of connecting older and newly built industrial complexes. The track was never completed, since Strousberg was stopped by his own bankruptcy in 1875. The paper focuses on the Hořejší (upper) ironworks in Dobřív, the vast undermined area around the town of Mirošov, and a survey of its montane structures. The...

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):464-473

The article continues on the topic of the overall concept of educational activities of the NHI which were released in 2013. Through a relatively complicated process, a set of "educational kits" was compiled which are now available through educational centers within the NHI (Central Bohemia, Bečov, Č. Budějovice, Telč, Kroměříž, Ostrava, Hradec n. M.), a search for topics and items that should be included, and discussions carried out on this subject with the educational faculties in Prague and Brno. The educational team also sought out inspiration when traveling abroad, particularly in France, Great Britain, and Austria. A relatively large part of what...

Genealogy research on the Wallensteins from the mobiliary fund of Kozel Castle

Tomáš Štumbauer

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):474-481

The mobiliary fund of the Kozel State Castle contains an original of an extensive handwritten pedigree of the Wallensteins - the last owners of the Kozel hunting castle and the Šťáhlavy estates until their confiscation in 1945. The artifact from the second half of the 19th century is probably a transcription and partially a synthesis of older pedigrees and genealogies of the Wallensteins, containing even additions from the early 20th century. The institutional research task of NHI, "Research of the pictorial pedigree of the Wallensteins from the mobiliary fund of Kozel Castle and its presentation through an interactive computer model with links to...

An automated technical inventory of the heritage fund as associated with the preparation of the Heritage Catalogue.

Martin Lazák

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):482-489

The preparation of a new software design known as the Heritage Catalogue, which has already entered the implementation phase, was the stimulus for assessing the hitherto development of heritage informatics and for a re-specification of terminological and methodological bases. An integral part of the solution of the Heritage Catalogue is a technical inventory, known in Czech as pasportizace. It is expected that this "passportization" of the heritage fund will be one of the main development potentials for heritage study (monumatika) in the coming years.Descriptions of cultural heritage by individual interest disciplines have settled on the principles...

Alena Borovcová

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):490-496

Railways built by the Northern Railway under Emperor Ferdinand have been mapped in detail within the course of departmental research. The aim of the subsequent research is to document the former Northern State Railway (Olomouc - Prague - Děčín, Brno - Česká Třebová) within the range of its root tracks and comparatively the networks of the Austrian State Railways (StEG), to which it was connected. An overview of the formation of the basic railway network in relation to the railway company provides information on the main railway lines while at the same time describing the process of systematic research focused on aspects of heritage preservation.

The personage of Johannes Coudenhove-Kalergi and references to him in the mobiliary fund of the castle in Poběžovice

Tomáš Štumbauer

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):497-506

The aristocratic family of Coudenhove-Kalergi established in West Bohemian Poběžovice (Ronsperg) is mostly known for the personages of the exotic Japanese woman Mitsuko and her son, Dr. Richard Nikolaus, a promoter of pan-European ideas. The article refers to Mitsuko's first-born son, Johann (Hans) Evangelist Virgilio Coudenhove-Kalergi von Ronspergheim (1893-1965), whose life is mostly tied to the castle in Poběžovice. The fate of this eccentric collector and amateur artist, the husband of the first female Hungarian pilot Lilly Steinschneider, is a testament to the life of the subdued aristocracy who were stripped of their titles under the atmosphere...

Zdeňka Kolbabová

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):507-512

This article examines a hitherto little-known set of glass underpaintings contained in the mobiliary fund of the Horšovský Tyn Castle and Kladruby Monastery. The set contains a total of 34 underpaintings on glass which have not yet been processed. The article attempts to briefly introduce the diverse group of glass underpaintings and categorize them based on three criteria. The paintings were categorized according to the techniques used in their creation, generally according to their provenance, if possible, and finally by iconography. The last group of glass underpaintings mostly includes color underpaintings; there are several examples of the use...

Research on the surface finishes of the Tomáš Baťa Memorial in Zlín

Petr Kuneš, Dagmar Michoinová, Vladislava Krajčová

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(6):513-518

The Tomáš Baťa Memorial is an important monument to interwar functionalist Baťa architecture. It was built in 1933 based on a design by František L. Gahura as a building-statue with purely a memorial function that was supposed to commemorate the person of Tomáš Baťa, his tragic death, and his legacy to future generations. Gahura wished to restrict the list of used materials to reinforced concrete, steel, and glass; this was based on his concept of aesthetics and was also intended to symbolize Baťa's qualities - generosity, clarity, ascension, optimism, and simplicity. The memorial was ceremonially revealed on 12 July 1933 on the day of the first anniversary...
