In recent years, in the Czech Republic, nominations for inscription on the World Heritage List have been preferred for topics that, in addition to the objective values of preserved heritage, are based on the interest of the public and local government representation. The Žatec hop-growing landscape is our only protected reproductive landscape. This unique area, situated about 3 kilometers southeast of Žatec, has all the features typical of top hop-growing sites, and hops have been continuously grown here since the early modern period at the latest. Chimneys of hop warehouses in Žatec and their survey

In 2022, a detailed historical research and field survey of the standing chimneys of hop warehouses was carried out. The authors Michal Horáček and Martin Vonka describe in this article the methods of the research and its results. The first railway line leading to Prague (though a highly atypical line from today’s perspective) did not belong to the Olomouc-Prague Steam Railway Company (which began operating in 1845), but to its predecessor, the Prague-Lány Horsedrawn Railway. This short narrow-gauge line, designed primarily to transport timber, became the foundation for the first mine railway in Bohemia, run by the Buštěhrad Railway Company, and it later formed the spine of the company’s rail network in Central and North-West Bohemia. The topic of the representation of cultural landscapes on the World Heritage List was opened following the conclusions of the 16th session of the World Heritage Committee in 1992, and since then the number of such sites on the List has exceeded one hundred of a varies nature.
