The result is an overview of the reorganization from 1873 until World War One. The article recalls the protagonists of the Central Committee and their goals. It generally notes...

The conservator in the Great War

Jiří Křížek

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(4):279-282

There were some prominent Czech art historians and conservators who actively participated in the First World War as soldiers of the Austrian army. The surviving personal correspondence of Zdeněk Wirth, Antonín Matějček, and Vojtěch Birnbaum provides personal testimonies of how they had to deal with their dire life situations. For art-oriented intellectuals, the experience of war mostly meant isolation from their homes and families, career interruption, and a fundamental living uncertainty. Influential colleagues and friends who were not sent to the front for professional or medical reasons attempted to call these soldiers back home individually, but...

The requisitions of bells in Bohemia during the First World War

Petr Vácha

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(4):310-313

The lack of ferrous metals for war purposes was initially resolved through collections, followed by requisitions. Bells represented an enormous amount of necessary material. The first requisition began in the second half of 1916 and continued in 1917. Since the lists were not consistent with the reality, some valuable bells that were supposed to have been preserved were removed. Some valuable bells that had already been pulled down were saved, while others were destroyed, even with no documentation, before the decision was made to protect them. Bells were removed either whole or broken up, even directly in the towers, while some were thrown out...

"In the calamity that is to befall our Czech organs…" The requisition of organ pipes during the First World War

Vít Honys

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(4):314-318

The article addresses the course and impact of the requisition of prospect organ pipes during the First World War in Bohemia with a focus on the dioceses of Litoměřice and České Budějovice. A comparison of source data (especially the "requisition cadaster", working inventories of instruments designated for removal from the requisition) and the actual state of the surviving instruments shows that despite the inadequacy of the submitted data on instruments, which resulted in a lack of protection for a number of instruments which would have deserved protection in the spirit of the issued directives, through the efforts of several conservators and correspondents...

Zprávy památkové péče 2014, 74(4):324-328

During an inventory of the mobiliary of the Church of St. Ignatius in Prague's New Town as part of the Integrated System of Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage (ISO), items were found that belonged, inter alia, among Holy Mass equipment for military chaplains of the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War. In addition to these sets, the church also contains fragments of at...
