Pernštejn Year 2012

Petr Svoboda, Petra Svobodová

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):83-85

This article presents a recap of a key educational event of the National Heritage Institute in 2012. The event commemorating the Pernštejn family joined the forces of dozens of organizations in four regions of the Czech Republic, thus creating a series of exhibitions, lecture series, and cultural events, while publications were issued for professionals and the general public. The entire project was sponsored by a unified marketing campaign backed by major publicity. The series "Traces of Nobility" (Po stopách šlechtických rodů) thus presented a dignified finish to its second year in order to pass the baton to the "Year of French Culture", commemorating...

Naděžda Kubů, Petr Svoboda

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):86-91

The exhibition, which ran from 3 May to 2 September 2013 in the Salm Palace at Prague's Hradčany, was a joint product of the National Heritage Institute and the National Gallery and was the pivotal event of the series "Pernštejn year" - of the second year of the interdepartmental project "Traces of Nobility". The National Gallery mostly provided spaces for the project that, immediately after reconstruction, allowed visitors to view a monument that had been closed for years. The National Heritage Institute then provided the concept of the exhibition, the curatorial team, and the actual production. This article provides a look back through the eyes of...

Karel Kibic

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):92-101

The exhibition "The Pernštejns and Their Time" at Prague Castle, organized in 2012, was dedicated to the life of the nobility in the 15th and 16th centuries, their residences, and their buildings. The article ties into this exhibition to address the significant contribution of the Pernštejns to the development of Czech cities during that period.Timewise, the realization can be strongly split into the Late Gothic of the 15th century (Tovačov, Přerov) and the early and High Renaissance in the 16th century (Prostějov, Nové Město nad Metují, Pardubice, Litomyšl). The article points out the spatial changes and the pursuits of interests of the nobility...

Restoration of the portrait of Frebonie Eusebie of Pernštejn

Marta Sedláková

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):109-112

In preparation for the exhibition "Pernštejns and Their Time", portrait paintings were restored in 2012. After the restorative survey by restorer Dr. Pavel Klimeš, it was found that the original size of the image "Frebonie Eusebie of Pernštejn" (159 × 95 cm, oil on canvas, unknown painter from the early 17th century, Pernštejn State Castle, inv. No. PE 1790) was smaller and that there was a single-line inscription located beneath the portrait. After consultation with NHI ÚOP in Brno, X-ray images were also taken; the text did not contain heavy metals and could not be more closely identified, given the time and financial conditions. Probably in the...

Church of the Holy Family in České Budějovice

Jiří Černý

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):117-125

In České Budějovice, the rehabilitation of the Neo-gothic Church of the Holy Family has been underway from 2012; the church was cleared out in 1968 and used as a depository of the archives of the Ministry of the Interior (State Regional Archive in Třeboň). In the future, the church is to serve as a "spiritual space" especially for high school students of the adjacent Bishopric Gymnasium of Jan Neumann, located in the former building of the Rearing Institute and orphanage of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo. The Borromeo nuns, during the hundred years of their activities in České Budějovice (until 1950, when they were...

Method of presenting earthen buildings in natural museums

Martin Novotný

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):126-131

Monuments of folk architecture have great historical and artistic value and are an important part of the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic. Museums set in natural settings are institutions that present selected components of life and culture of the population of past generations. Their most visible parts are folk structures, which are usually moved from their original location to the museum premises. Regarding complete transfer, we may speak primarily of objects from wood, their constructional material allowing for the disassembly of the structure and its subsequent assembly elsewhere. For masonry buildings, especially clay, similar procedures...

Michal Kloiber, Jiří Bláha, Jiří Kunecký, Hana Hasníková, Jan Trippner, Václav Sebera

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):132-139

Repairs to the truss on the nave of the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Vranov nad Dyjí was preceded by detailed structural and technical research focused on localizing the damaged areas, classifying the degree of damage, and determining the extent of concealed infestation using a non-destructive Fakopp Microsecond Timer ultrasonic device. Based on the results of structural and technical research, elements proposed for structural rehabilitation were drawn into drawing documentation and, in individual cases of damage, specific technological procedures were established for necessary remedial measures. In the structural rehabilitation...

The Český Krumlov Jewish community in contemporary photography

Iva Steinová

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):140-146

This article reflects on the permanent exhibition in the winter chapel of the synagogue in Český Krumlov, which, after the synagogue was reopened, presents the fate of the Český Krumlov Jews accompanied by mostly contemporary photographs from the important local photo studios of Wolf and Seidel. The modern history of the local Jewish community begins shortly after the mid-19th century and ends with the onset of fascism and the occupation of the Sudetenland in 1938. During this period, the Spiro family stood at the forefront, having settled in Krumlov to do business in the paper industry and, through the gradual expansion of production and ancillary...

Traces of the Rejchl architects in heritage preservation

Ladislav Zikmund-Lender

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(2):154-156

This article accentuates the engagement of the interwar brotherly architectural duo Václav and Jan Rejchl in conservation, where one was primarily active as a regional conservator for the Rychnov region and participated in inventories of monuments, and the other, as an active architect, realized a number of important monument renovations. The influence of the approach of Zdeněk Wirth and his efforts in finding a holistic significance in historical monuments is undisputed.
