Looking back at the exhibition "The Pernštejns and Their Time"

Naděžda Kubů, Petr Svoboda

The exhibition, which ran from 3 May to 2 September 2013 in the Salm Palace at Prague's Hradčany, was a joint product of the National Heritage Institute and the National Gallery and was the pivotal event of the series "Pernštejn year" - of the second year of the interdepartmental project "Traces of Nobility". The National Gallery mostly provided spaces for the project that, immediately after reconstruction, allowed visitors to view a monument that had been closed for years. The National Heritage Institute then provided the concept of the exhibition, the curatorial team, and the actual production. This article provides a look back through the eyes of the curatorial team at the elapsed exhibition which was unique not only in its exhibited works, but by its overall concept as well. The result was an allusion to an aristocratic residence from the time of the last living Pernštejns as well as a presentation of their stories as depicted and described through the installation.
