The Český Krumlov Jewish community in contemporary photography
This article reflects on the permanent exhibition in the winter chapel of the synagogue in Český Krumlov, which, after the synagogue was reopened, presents the fate of the Český Krumlov Jews accompanied by mostly contemporary photographs from the important local photo studios of Wolf and Seidel. The modern history of the local Jewish community begins shortly after the mid-19th century and ends with the onset of fascism and the occupation of the Sudetenland in 1938. During this period, the Spiro family stood at the forefront, having settled in Krumlov to do business in the paper industry and, through the gradual expansion of production and ancillary activities, contributed to the prosperity of the town and its inhabitants.
