The transformation of the main facade of Richter House as an example of the relationship of conservation to the heritage of its own past

Kateřina Adamcová

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):331-340 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.11

The article presents a reflection on the current practice of surveying the color of the facades of historical buildings, also based on the specific experience gained during the implementation of this type of research on the main facade of the so-called Richter's House on Malé náměstí in Prague's Old Town. In the first part of the text the author offers a detailed view of the course of the survey itself. We have the opportunity not only to look into how the available sources of information were used, whether it is the probes themselves or the materials collected in the archival research, but also to assess the relevance of the subsequent interpretation...

Neglected medieval paintings in the former second floor of Žirovnice Castle

Jan Dienstbier

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):341-354 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.12

The article draws attention to the still unrestored wall paintings in the former second floor of the Žirovnice castle, now mostly demolished. The mural, significantly damaged, has been completely ignored in literature, even though it is a monument of paramount importance from an artistic point of view. In terms of authorship, it can be linked to the work of the "Master of Žirovnice" who painted other parts of the castle in the 1490s. Of the remains of the former second floor decorations, the most important is a set of paintings in the tower chamber, once connected to the great banquet hall. In terms of complexity, the tournament scene stands out among...

Konopiště Castle in the first years of ownership by Franz Ferdinand d'Este - interior transformations as a reflection of life changes

Lukáš Slabý

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):355-370 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.13

The study, based on the analysis of planning documentation and castle inventories, presents a reconstruction of the interior layout of Konopiště Castle (Benešov district) and its changes during the first years of ownership by Franz Ferdinand d'Este (after 1887). It thus partly covers the condition of the castle interiors from the time of the Lobkowicz family and shows the gradual changes in the names, functions, and layout of individual rooms during the 1890s. It thus serves as a reflection not only of the professional and personal changes in the life of Franz Ferdinand d'Este and the associated new demands on the castle interiors. The study concludes...

The end of the Art Nouveau dream. Residential construction in Brno-Husovice in 1919-1925

Pavla Cenková, Aleš Homola

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):371-384 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.14

The article depicts the building of residential construction zones in the Brno district of Husovice in the 1920s as a laboratory sample of the processes of formation of modern society which are reflected in the form of building shells of its living spaces. Czech Husovice, which achieved city status in 1912, programmatically declared its rise with a group of representative public buildings in the Art Nouveau style which were also complemented by distinctive Art Nouveau residential buildings. In the inter-war period, this horizon was rather unremarkably followed by streets of mostly architecturally bland terraced houses, with the exception of a few notable...

Renata Vrabelová, Petr Svoboda

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):385-400 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.15

This study provides a cross-sectional map of Czechoslovak funerary architecture and places it in a global and especially European context. It looks for sources of foreign inspiration and involvement in contemporary transnational trends and their transformations, and attempts to prove the connection of contemporary Czech architecture to world and European tendencies, including their shifts and modifications. In doing so, it contributes to a better identification of the monumental values of the buildings under study, and seeks to highlight the undeniable qualities of many of the realizations created in the second half of the 20th century, which - unlike...

Kateřina Houšková, Matyáš Kracík, Anna Schránilová

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):401-420 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.16

The third part of the miniseries on the architecture of the Prague metro is devoted to the sections put into operation in the 1980s. It is a chronological continuation of the previous parts devoted to the first two sections of lines A and C completed in 1980. The main achievement of the 1980s was the construction of Line B, which completed the basic triangle of transfer stations in the city center, which remains unchanged to this day. At the same time, Line C was extended to Nádraží Holešovice and Line A was extended to Strašnická. After the varied use of stone, ceramics and anodized aluminum on routes A and C, route B saw the progressive use of another...

The new building law and heritage care

Martin Zídek

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):421-446 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.17

The article presents the new building law which was published under No. 283/2021 Coll. There are several major changes brought by this law. The main change is a different institutional concept of the system of building authorities, which is to be exclusively state-run. The competence of the construction authorities also includes the competence of certain authorities concerned. Compared to existing legislation, the sphere of spatial planning has undergone probably the smallest changes. This state of affairs would thus enable the existing case law to be used in the future to protect the interests of state heritage protection within the framework of spatial...

It also introduces the general legislative anchorage of volunteer activities in the Czech Republic, which is followed by the internal regulations of the National Heritage Institute. The article presents the results of qualitative research on the cooperation of heritage objects with volunteers and local residents, which was conducted in the form of semi-structured interviews with selected castellans and cooperating subjects....

Use of drones in archaeology and conservation as a tool for monitoring and documentation of bark beetle calamity on the example of the Vysočina Region

Pavel Macků

Zprávy památkové péče 2022, 82(3):455-463 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2022.2.19

This article summarizes four years of photographic data collection from remotely piloted systems (UAS - Unmanned Aerial System, hereafter as "drone") and aircraft in the Vysočina Region from archaeological sites, cultural landscapes, as well as from heritage sites and cultural monuments in urban environments, where aerial work with this type of recording equipment is quite complex in terms of Czech and EU legislation. The second part deals with the possibilities of monitoring the bark beetle calamity, threatening cultural monuments and archaeological sites located in the forest environment and preventing their protection. The article was written with...
