The work of Johann Lucas Kracker for the Louka Premonstrates. Essay on the reception of the compositional motifs of Paul Troger
Petr Arijčuk
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):507-518
One of the painters from around the mid 18th century who was significantly influenced by the works of Paul Troger (1698-1762) is undoubtedly Johann Lucas Kracker (1717-1779), who graduated from the Vienna Art Academy in the 1730's. At this time he came to Moravia, settled in Znojmo in 1749, and remained there for nearly two decades. His works bear a wide range of compositional elements and motifs borrowed from Troger's work, particularly those from the 1750's and 1760's. He thus ranks among the numerous painters, simply unknown to us in many cases, who were active in Moravia and Bohemia throughout the entire second half of the 18th century spreading...
Heritage and urbanistic values of the Plzeň-Bezovka municipal heritage zone with special emphasis on the works of architect Vilém Beer
Lenka Buchbergerová
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):519-524
A survey of the Plzeň neighborhood of Bezovka has demonstrated it to hold architectural and heritage historical value. The survey contributed to a deeper understanding of the development of this unusual urbanistically structured city quarter as well as the causes which led to its development. New facts were discovered regarding the developmental stages of the heritage zone, and the constructional history of a selected set of buildings was documented. Special attention was devoted to the work of the Prague architect Vilém Beer and his Plzeň builders. This previously unpublished piece of research has contributed to a deeper understanding of this quality...

Katarína Haberlandová
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):525-527
The establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 was not only a political and economic milestone for Slovakia, but cultural as well.By a regulation declared by Vavro Šrobár, Minister plenipotentiary for administration of Slovakia, on 20 October 1919, the governmental committee for the protection of monuments in Slovakia was formed. Architect Dušan Jurkovič was named as the head of the committee, and the Czech art historian Jan Hofman soon became his closest collaborator. As far as the protection of monuments went, and the committee's interdependence with the enforcement of architectural modernism, the situation was not calm. Hungarian...
Archeology and geocaching. Vildenberk as a case study
Josef Jan Kovář
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):528-531
At the end of 2011, a box was discovered in the Moravian medieval castle of Vildenberk, hidden as part of the world-wide tourist/sport game known as geocaching. Its storage, however, resulted in damage to the archeological cultural level of the forecastle. Geocaching activities had been monitored in this location for a year, and no further damage was found that would be provably associated with this game. An analysis of the international rules of the game also showed that when the rules are observed, geocaching (in contrast to other mass terrain activities and detecting) may be considered a relatively harmless activity from the perspective of archeological...
Surveys of Jewish cemeteries. The Jewish cemetery in Střítež
Iva Steinová
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):532-535
The Jewish cemetery in Střítež near Jihlava is one of the smallest Jewish cemeteries in the country. A detailed survey provided new datings of its gravestones. It was shown that the existence of the Střítež cemetery goes back to the beginning of the 18th century at the latest, and the oldest gravestone dates back to 1713. Another surprising finding was that the gravestones from the 18th century make up more than of a third of all the gravestones that were preserved. The Střítež cemetery holds Jews that lived scattered throughout several nearby villages and usually worked as tenants of the manor farm buildings. The first mention of a Jewish settlement...
The biological attack on stone statues and reliefs in Nový Les near Kuks and its possible suppression
Josef Halda, Petr Kotlík, Zdeněk Štaffen
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):536-542
This essay summarizes the basic conditions that invoke the danger of damage to stone objects by living organisms - sufficient nutrients, water, and light. Using the specific example of stone statues and reliefs in the Nový Les complex near Kuks, it is demonstrated how certain improper restoration attempts can support the effect of living organisms on stone, and what measures (restricting the supply of water, removing impurities, etc.) might limit the effects of algae, lichens, bryophytes, etc. to reduce damage to stone. The essay also provides brief information on a test verifying the biocidal efficacy of a nanodispersion of silver. Under given application...

Jana Daňková, Miroslava Mamoňová, Ladislav Reinprecht
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):543-547
From a conservationist and technical perspective, roofing is seen as a construction whose life span falls short of the life span of the structure as a whole and therefore requires continuous renovation. An essential and primary step in the process of renewing roofing construction, or its part, is research. Material research of wooden roofing construction is an important partial step, the results of which are crucial not only for the technical design of the constructional renovation, but which may also provide information on the constructional history. One of the goals of material research of wooden roofing constructions is to determine the type of...
Characterizing the mortar in Judith Bridge
Petr Kuneš
Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(6):548-554
Archeological research on the relics of the Judith Bridge, carried out in 2010-2013 on the Malá Strana and the Old Town banks, provided access to, among others, the authentic mortar of the oldest stone bridge in our country. The research presented made it possible to examine the mortar from the filled walls of the pillar and the core of the bridge, the divided segments of the bridge deck, and the tiled surface of the bridge roadway. The mortar from the core of the Charles Bridge, taken as part of research on the condition of the mortar wall filling in 2007, was studied as a reference. The research primarily focused on documenting, characterizing, and...
