Roofing construction in the Premonstratensian Monastery in Želiv

Jana Daňková, Miroslava Mamoňová, Ladislav Reinprecht

From a conservationist and technical perspective, roofing is seen as a construction whose life span falls short of the life span of the structure as a whole and therefore requires continuous renovation. An essential and primary step in the process of renewing roofing construction, or its part, is research. Material research of wooden roofing construction is an important partial step, the results of which are crucial not only for the technical design of the constructional renovation, but which may also provide information on the constructional history. One of the goals of material research of wooden roofing constructions is to determine the type of wood and to assess the type and extent of biological damage, if applicable. The species composition of the wooden material can, to a certain degree, indicate its mechanical characteristics which in turn provide the basis for a static analysis of the construction. The article publishes the results of preliminary research on wooden roofing construction in the Premonstratensian Monastery complex in Želiv.
