Martin Gaži, Roman Lavička

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):283-299 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.02

In Klokoty, on a hill west of the historical center of the city of Tábor, stands one of Bohemia's most impressive Marian pilgrimage sites. This heritage aggregate, built to its present appearance as part of an extensive Baroque reconstruction from 1700 to 1714, was recently listed as a national cultural heritage property. At the same time, interest in the site is also increasing from the Roman Catholic Church for its possible use for broader pastoral activities. The study focuses on the procedures that heritage care applied during repairs to this specific heritage site as part of several stages of constructional stabilization and restoration works...

Lomec near Vodňany - the constructional transformation of the complex in the first half of the 20th century as a reflection of the spiritual life of a Marian pilgrimage site

Jan Uhlík

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):300-306 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.03

The history of Lomec as a place of pilgrimage began to develop at the end of the 17th century, when Count Filip Emanuel Bucquoy placed the cornerstone of a new Marian church on a hilltop. After the completion of the church, a mercy statue of the Virgin Mary de Foy was placed inside. The Count's father, Count Karel Filip Bucquoy, attributed to the statue his rescue from a storm that struck his ship in 1685 when sailing from Italy to Spain. The end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century were an active and busy time for Lomec which, in many respects, followed up on the previous developments. At the same time, however, it brought about significant...

Castle chapels and their liturgical furnishings as a subject of historical and liturgical research

Radek Martinek

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):307-316 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.04

The chapel was an integral part of each noble residence; it was designed for private prayer as well as celebrating various church ceremonies or events of importance to members of the aristocratic family. It is not only their artistic decoration that merits research, however, but also the chapels themselves from a liturgical point of view and their ecclesiastic-legal status which significantly influenced the liturgical function and therefore their furnishings. Liturgical life in the chapels of noble residences in the Czech lands definitively fell quiet in 1950; this was a time equally unfavorable to both the aristocracy and the church. In ancient...

The Bishop seat of Kroměříž - one of the centers of production for liturgical objects made from precious metals in Moravia during the Baroque period

Anna Grossová

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):317-330 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.05

Archives provide us with the names of a number of goldsmiths and silver masters active in Moravia from the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 19th century, but they tell us little about their actual creative work. Most historical valuables of a liturgical and profane nature made of precious metals, as far as we know, were melted down between 1806-1807 and 1809-1810 in order to avert state bankruptcy. When looking at the production of Baroque jewelry from the 17th and (especially) 18th centuries, what is available today is less than a mere torso of the rich personal and church sets that represent the work of local goldsmiths settled throughout...

Lucie Bláhová, Jana Petrová

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):331-339 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.06

Countess Wilhelmina Schaffgotsch was born into a family of rich coal magnates and industrialists. Her marriage with Johann Larisch of Mönnich confirmed her position in the then-emerging financial and industrial bourgeoisie. After the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the aristocracy, having enjoyed the highest position of social status for centuries, was forced to seek a new place among the social elite. Both the Schaffgotsch and Larisch families from Mönnich joined the new social stratum and utilized their enormous financial resources to concentrate more power into their hands than the nobility had possessed in the past. The Larisch family of Mönnich...

Ján Čáni

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):340-348 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.07

The article presents a brief overview of the spectrum of archaeological heritage properties, specifically extinct modern glassworks, with an emphasis on relics related to technological processes of preparing glass raw materials and glass production.Historiographical research on the history of glass production in the Czech lands has a long tradition, followed by a professional interest in the archeological field since the middle of the 20th century. While archaeological research has predominantly focused on medieval sites, the level of research of modern-era glassworks is still insufficient. The present situation among heritage care of relics of...

Jan Pařez

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):349-355 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.08

The article provides information about the results of field reconnaissance, localization, and a survey of sites of defunct modern hammer mills in the Novohradské Mountains. Nine potential hammer mill sites were selected. Using cartographic sources, written sources, secondary literature, and an anthropogenic relief survey, six sites were definitively identified with localized hammer mill relics. The field part was focused on the identification of the individual buildings of the hammer mill sites, while the more detailed survey focused on production waste and auxiliary production facilities, such as mill runs and retention tanks. In localities where...

Kateřina Adamcová

Zprávy památkové péče 2018, 78(4):367-380 | DOI: 10.56112/zpp.2018.4.10

In a small cemetery at the church of St. Wenceslas and St. Stanislav in the village of Měník near Nový Bydžov is a remarkable funerary work from the beginning of the 20th century which recalls one of the pioneers of Czech archeology, the local native Josef Hladík. The tombstone is characterized by an extraordinary wealth of diverse motifs whose meaning extends beyond the usual references to our mortality, the pain of the survivors, and Christian symbolism associated with the afterlife. The main part of the tombstone's decoration consists of items that were uncovered during excavations that were led personally by Josef Hladík. Archaeological finds from...
