Fruit dryer in the chateau park in Veltrusy
- NPÚ, Generální ředitelství v Praze
The article summarizes the results of research into the history of the fruit drying facility on the Veltrusy Chateau complex within the context of the importance of the estate's fruit production and describes the construction development of the still-preserved building. The research was based on an analysis and evaluation of archival materials, especially building plans from the first half of the 19th century (mostly by architect J. P. Jöndl), supplemented by findings from archaeological research, a survey of structures, and ongoing surveys conducted during renovation, as well as a comparison with analogies of still preserved or restored fruit-drying facilities in the Czech Republic. The aim of the research was the most accurate determination of building development of the structure, resp. its appearance at different times, and a subsequent determination of the results of its renovation, i.e. its final form. The article thus summarizes and synthesizes all currently available knowledge on the fruit drying facility in Veltrusy into a comprehensive story about the intention, plans, construction, and reconstruction of the still-preserved building, and the importance of its restoration.
