The development of tools of territorial heritage protection and their usefulness in an environment of Central European historic cities

Vlastislav Ouroda

Historic urban structures are one of the most important components of the cultural heritage. Their historical values are, in a vast majority of cases, in constant interaction with the current developments of living residences. Methods of influencing this development towards sustainability in respect to the cultural heritage have long been studied and discussed in the professional community at the national and international levels. This article briefly reflects on the development of this issue in the Czech Republic from the end of the communist totalitarian regime to the present in the context of foreign inspiration and as it relates to the creation of international doctrinal texts. It shortly covers the ongoing research on this topic, the goal of which is also to assess the current state of protection of historical settlements and to specify the potential of valuable territories for current and potential new ways of management.
