An image of England in the collection of drawings, prints, and photographs at the Lednice State Castle in Moravia

Petr Czajkowski

Part of the collections of drawings, prints, and photographs at the State Castle in Lednice in Moravia is an extensive set of pictorial material of English origin with a total volume numbering several hundred pieces. The variability of its content shows the breadth of a collector's image through his insistent interest in England by the probable users of this collection, Princes John II and Francis I of Lichtenstein. An evaluation and interpretation of a narrow segment of the recognized portion of the collection contributed to the knowledge and understanding of their approach to visual information, moving during this period somewhere between the simple documentation of certain contemporary phenomena and direct sources of inspiration.
