Modern architecture of the 1970's in Eastern Krkonoše - buildings of the architect Josef Polák

Vladimíra Paterová

This article deals with the history and description of three Krkonoše Mountain cottages designed in the 1970's. In Špindlerův Mlýn these are the Krakonošova Tavern at Hotel Montana from 1972 and Myslivna from 1973, while at the crossroads from Pec pod Sněžkou to Strážné and Špindlerův Mlýn there is the "Bufet Na Rozcestí" from 1978. All three buildings were designed by architect Josef Polák from the Prague Design Institute under the influence of new architectural trends and philosophical considerations. In the introduction, the author addresses mental inspiration and the contemporary context that influenced the creation of the buildings; there is also a comparison with equivalent realizations abroad. The works of architect Josef Polák are described in more detail.
