Transforming the National Heritage Institute

Naděžda Goryczková

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(1):3-7

The year 2012 was the tenth year of the unified expert organization of national heritage preservation; it was also a year of crucial decisions about the future direction of the National Heritage Institute. It was therefore a year that brought the fulfilment of many long-awaited changes for some, but open disappointment with the new developments of the internal arrangements of the Heritage Institute for others. The aim of this article is to acquaint the reader with the reasons and impacts of the changes effective as of 1. 1. 2013.

Management of historic buildings in the National Heritage Institute

Miloš Kadlec

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(1):10-14

The scope of those who established heritage buildings after 1989 was quite varied (heritage institutes, regional authorities, lower level authorities, regional museums, Ministry of Culture). Effective 1. 1. 2003, the Czech Ministry of Culture passed a decision that created the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) as an expert organization for national heritage care and which is authorized to manage most of the castles owned by the state. The formation of the NPÚ did not, however, result in the elimination of the methods of administration, presentation, and renovation of heritage complexes. This matter began to be conceptually resolved from the turn of...

The development of national heritage care institutions as viewed over the past decade of the existence of a unified NPÚ

Aleš Krejčů

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(1):27-35

After the Second World War, the Czechoslovak Republic began taking steps to confirm the continuity of the state with the first Republic; one such step was renewing the function of the Heritage Care offices. Political and social developments, however, took a different direction following the Košice governmental program, and this was of course reflected in the role of the state in the field of heritage care. The article briefly describes the changes in the field and its institutions associated with the formation of new structures of national committees at the beginning of the 1950's. It also outlines the gradual measures taken by the government and ministries...

National Heritage Institute, its mission and (as yet unused) expert potential

Zdeněk Novák

Zprávy památkové péče 2013, 73(1):36-41

This year, the National Heritage Institute marks ten years of its existence. The article addresses the management of methodological approaches of state heritage care in the 20th century. It states that the decentralization of expert national heritage care that took place in the 1950's hindered the methodological management of practical approaches of individual conservationists to comparable cases of the renovation of cultural properties within the Czech Republic, destabilized them, and resulted in a weakening of the positions of these expert organizations. The formation of the National Heritage Institute on 1 January 2003 was motivated by the aim to...
