The year 2012 was the tenth year of the unified expert organization of national heritage preservation; it was also a year of crucial decisions about the future direction of the National Heritage Institute. It was therefore a year that brought the fulfilment of many long-awaited changes for some, but open disappointment with the new developments of the internal arrangements of the Heritage Institute for others. The aim of this article is to acquaint the reader with the reasons and impacts of the changes effective as of 1. 1. 2013.

After the Second World War, the Czechoslovak Republic began taking steps to confirm the continuity of the state with the first Republic; one such step was renewing the function of the Heritage Care offices. This year, the National Heritage Institute marks ten years of its existence. The article addresses the management of methodological approaches of state heritage care in the 20th century.
