Preserved buildings inspired by the culture of the Far East in garden monuments in the Czech Republic

This article deals with the presentation and evaluation of a narrow segment of the heritage property fund, namely existing structures with the theme of the Far East in historic gardens and parks in the Czech Republic. It presents the partial results of research carried out by the Methodical Center for Garden Culture in Kroměříž which focused on this type of buildings and entire garden districts built in the oriental spirit until about 1900. The research was carried out by means of literature, archival and field researches. The aim of the study was to provide a comprehensive picture of this hitherto unprocessed topic. Over 80 garden structures (pavilions, bridges, mechanical toys etc.) inspired by the culture of the Far East were identified. Eighteen pavilions, two bridges and a wall in the form of a dragon have been physically preserved. The results of the project were comprehensively published in a professional monograph. Thus, a further basis was created for a quality insertion of the development of garden culture in our territory into a pan-European context.
