The Prague metro. Architecture and heritage potential of the oldest section - route I. C

The study deals with the architecture of the Prague metro and its first realized section which was put into operation in 1974. The introduction presents a summary of literature and current knowledge in the field of this topic. The first part describes the complicated and long history preceding the construction of the metro, including the dispute over whether to choose an underground tram or a metro, which was also a heritage topic. The article describes the architectural design of seven stations of route I. C, leading from Florenc to Kačerov. It deals with the approach of the architects, their sources of inspiration, and the specific designs that were completed. The article aims to evaluate the metro as part of Czech post-war architecture and also to point out the degradation interventions that took place after 1989. Related to this is the final consideration of possible heritage property protection of selected stations and a systemic approach to modifications to these remarkable public interiors from the 1970s.
