The article focuses on carpentry and joinery work typical of a town tenement house of the second half of the 19th and early 20th century. At the same time, it deals with the possibilities of their preservation and presentation in a museum environment. It first describes the state of both crafts in the period in question, their interconnection and differences, and methods of how they process wood, their basic raw material. It then generally describes the groups of carpentry and joinery work by their basic enumeration, character, and the demands placed on them. It also acquaints readers with the possibilities of becoming acquainted with them, paying special attention to the ever-increasing importance of museum collections. It describes the process of transforming a historic building element or structure into a collection object. It lists individual types of building elements and shows the possibilities of their preservation and presentation in museum collections. The presentation of these possibilities is based on several years of experience associated with the construction and activities of the Center for Architectural Heritage of the National Technical Museum in Plasy. A substantial part of the article is then devoted to the enumeration and description of characteristic examples of temporary/auxiliary and permanent carpentry and joinery work on a town tenement house of the period in question - scaffolding; formwork, trusses, ceilings, wooden partitions and walls, doors and frames, windows, paneling walls and ceilings; and floors.
